The Music Works – case for support

The Music Works is a charity whose mission is to transform lives through creative music-making. It uses music to empower people to reach their potential so that everyone who wants to, regardless of their background or situation, has the chance to make music. In particular, it focuses on young people who face the greatest barriers in learning and in life: those experiencing mental health problems, who are not in education employment or training, who have disabilities or chronic physical health conditions; those who are young offenders or looked-after children.

The charity had recently undergone its own transformation: appointing a new chief executive, and developing a new business plan and brand. Its aim was to reach many more young people by growing its ability to secure funding, generate income and build a strong organisational foundation.

Communicating values, impact, outcomes

Chief Executive Deborah Potts approached Anita to create a ‘case for support’ – a document that sets out clearly, what the organisation is all about, the impact it makes, why it needs and deserves funding, and what it will achieve.

It outlines the challenges facing people in the county – and therefore funders and commissioners of services; how and why The Music Works can address these; and includes two short case studies of young people the charity has helped.

The team can adapt the case for support for a range of different purposes, using it in funding applications, proposals, or tenders as well as promotional materials.
