IRC – copywriting and editing its annual report


The sector we work in is one with an acronym. And there starts the problem. It’s the WASH sector – the water, sanitation and hygiene sector. It is cluttered with jargon. We who are in it are barely aware of the impenetrability of our discussions for outsiders. The jargon is not a problem at the conferences where we all get together or in the reports we write and share with sector peers. But it is in engaging with the rest of the world. It’s exciting for us to be working with an international client – particularly one with such an important mission as IRC, the international water charity that’s set up to find long-term solutions to the global crisis in water, sanitation and hygiene services. Our latest commission, in Spring 2016 saw the communications team approach us to refine the draft of their annual report.

We’ve worked with IRC on a number of projects now. The latest commission involved editing, recreating or rewriting the copy supplied by IRC in a clear, confident manner which reflected IRC as an organisation, and told its stories in an appealing way.

This built on our previous work for IRC copywriting the organisation’s mission, vision, and values for its website, as well as editing a PowerPoint presentation and a fundraising brochure targeted at potential international funders.
