Youth Music – case studies about the power of music

“Anita conducted sensitive telephone interviews with vulnerable young people and their families, and crafted their words into the powerful emotive stories we needed for fundraising purposes. Anita is professional, efficient and innovative: when a story she’d already worked on had to be withdrawn due to a change in participant’s circumstances, she managed to produce a fantastic replacement case study while working within our existing budget. Her work has made a huge difference to our communications with our supporter audiences, and we’d be very happy to work with her again.” Sophie Appleby, Communications Manager, Youth Music.

Youth Music were looking for freelance writers to research and write stories (case studies) about how the projects they fund have transformed the lives of individual young people. I was one of three writers contracted to create the stories, which involved interviewing six young people, as well as the adults involved in their care, support or music-making.

The charity supports more than 400 life-changing music-making projects across England each year, reaching around 90,000 young people. Communicating the impact of their work is essential, so they wanted powerful, inspiring and persuasive stories, to share through websites, social media, newsletters, publications and with the media.

The stories are being used to demonstrate impact to corporate partners, trusts and foundations, major donors and the general public.
